WHAT IS THE AU.D.?
The Au.D. (Doctor of Audiology) is a professional entry level degree for the practice of Audiology. Au.D. is also the designator identifying the practitioner as an Audiologist. Au.D. programs prepare students to provide hearing and balance care services. The four year post-baccalaureate programs expand the knowledge base and training experience over the master's degree and include at least a year of clinical rotations. Establishing the Au.D. frees Ph.D. programs to concentrate on clinical and laboratory research in Audiology. One need look no further than medicine, dentistry and optometry to observe professional doctorate programs and rigorous Ph.D. programs successfully co-existing and meeting the needs of those professions and consumers.
Audiologists treat most types of hearing loss through the fitting of digital hearing technology. However, hearing devices are only a small part of the overall treatment plan. Audiologists have extensive training not only in the fitting of digital technology, but in incorporating hearing devices into daily life. By using hearing devices daily and through effective counseling, patients can achieve the ultimate goal of better communication.

"I have just recently bought the new Resound Verso hearing aid[s]. These hearing aids are outstanding. They are so much better than the older Resound aids that I purchased 6 years ago. I am listing some of the many outstanding results obtained with these aids. 1.) TV has a clearer sound reception. 2.) Hearing and understanding others is much better. 3.) Wife can call me from another room and I can hear and understand her. 4.) I play the Mountain Dulcimer and can hear the notes and sound of the instrument much clearer. 5.) When the younger grandchildren visit I don't have any trouble hearing and understanding them. 6.) Telephone reception is better. I would not hesitate to recommend these to anyone who desires a better hearing environment."
